I turn on my Kodak dig. camera and it says LENS ERROR. Why would it say that and then shut off?

All digital cameras run a series of checks before getting ready to take a picture. The lens must zoom out from it's shut-down position, the focus motor must move and the internal focusing lens must move, the shutter must open and close and the iris (aperture) must open and close. If any one of these things (depending on exactly how the manufacturers design the camera) fail then the camera will give a lens error.

I'd put my money on there being something wrong with the zoom portion of the lens or perhaps the focus motor is jammed.
It only takes a very small amount of sand or dirt to jam any lens up. Impact will also cause serious problems with the lens.

to tell you the truth its cause kodak is probably the worst brand of didgital camera you can buy sorry
get if different one for better quality
