http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/sto... I think one of the most interesting new digital cameras on the market is the Pansonic TZ3. It has a very versatile 10X zoom range (28-280mm equiv.) and is surprisingly compact and lightweight considering the zoom range.
It is not the best low light performer but if you keep the camera to ISO 100 - 200 it is just fine. If you typically reduce your images in size or make small prints, ISO 400 is fine too. The small built-in camera flash, like those found on many compact digital cameras, is so-so.
Two possible drawbacks if they are important to you: lack of a viewfinder and no manual controls (though there are plenty of scene modes).
I own the TZ3 and have been using it for well over a month. It is my 9th digital camera and I'm very pleased with it. If you care to take a look, here are some sample photos I took with it:

The Canon SD800 also has a 28mm but only has a 3X optical zoom. However, it is a subcompact. It has very good image quality but some owners say there is too much corner softness when shooting at the widest angle, producing blurred detail.
I don't own the SD800 but do own the SD700 and adore it! Go over to www.dpreview.com and look through the review listings (they indicate the lens mm). |
