What camera lenses should I use for a Pentax K1000? |
I just got this camera, and it came with the standard lens, which is SMC Pentax-M 1:2 50mm...whatever that means. Can someone help me figure out all of this stuff from what film to use to lenses and so on? I'm clueless... You have a 50mm f/2 lens, which is called a prime lens or the "normal" lens. This lens sees things pretty much the same way that you do. Most people are interested in getting a zoom lens for dramatic close-ups and some people are then interested in getting a wide angle lens. Some are also interestedin getting a macro lens. Since you are new to this whole thing, I'll make a couple of suggestions in the lower priced range. You can probably find similar lenses make by Sigma, Tamron or Tokina that will cost even less and they will be decent lenses. You will also find some Vivitar and Soligor lenses from that era that are okay to use. Even on the low-priced end, I prefer to but lenses made by the maker of the camera so that all of your lenses will work the same way. You won't have to focus to the left on one and focus to the right on another, etc. Genuine Pentax lenses may be labeled Pentax or Asahi Optical. Usually, they will also say "SMC" in the name. Thats a pretty good camea, in my photo class thats the camera my teacher loans out if you want to use it. My teacher said they dont make parts for the Pentax's anymore. I know that the Pentax cameras take 35 mm film which you can buy just about anywhere. For everyday pictures you can use the standard 50 mm lens that came with your camera. Also if you want soem other lenses like a telephoto, fisheye, macro and so on then try going to a camera repair store or a pawn shop. also you could use a new canon or nikon lens with a lens adapter that will allow the lens to connect to the body. Sometimes camera stores sell second hand photo equipment. Or they might be able to hook you up with a photographer trying to sell their old lenses. You can also try newspaper ads or look online at places like ebay or half.com. You need Pentax K-mount lenses, by the way. They don't have to be made by Pentax, but they do need your camera's mount. |
