I also need to control when the flash works, meaning that some cameras if there is enough light, the flash will not fire. Does any body have any recommendation? Is it a good idea to buy a digital camcorder that let you take pictures as well? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

The Sony DSC-F717 would be a great camera also.
You can buy lens attachments such as wide angle, telephoto, and macro. I have that camera myself and I love it. I take macro photos without a macro lens because the macro setting allows you to get 1/2 inch up to the object. There is the auto flash setting you are looking for, it will not flash in light conditions, but in a condition that it thinks it needs light it will. Great camera. Check out www.kraphicsonline.com/equipment.htm for my specifications on the camera.
My dad just bought my mom a camera a week ago and it is pretty good. It is a Kodak Easy Share and it is like 299.99. ALthough the price it is good and reliable i use it alot lol. It has multiple picture taking features like scene ( party, beach bla bla bla) thats where you can make the picture taking exactly right for taking the type of picture in the type of setting you need. Dont get the other one theres one for 299$ and another for lower but you will see the diffrence in em though. I love it .
