I dropped my digital camera into a cup of coffee, now the lens won't move or open?

I dropped my digital camera into a cup of coffee, now the lens won't move or open. I presume that the coffee has stuck it fast, is there anyway that I can try and clean the coffee out???? Am devasted I loved my camera! Everything else still works amazingly but the lens won't open to zoom etc. Any answers gratefully appreciated!

I have dried it out completley maybe that was the problem, too much sugar in my coffee and it's all stuck. The camera was a present so not sure about the warranty, may just have to buy a new camera. Thanks for the quick responses - that was fantastic!

Take it back to where you bought it and see if they have any repair facilities. It may have to go back to the manufacturers. If you have a good photographic dealer, they may be prepared to repair and clean it for you.

The cost of repair may well be more than the camera is worth, however.

Do you have a personal insurance or a household contents insurance that might cover it?

try drying it under the sun for say 30 min..once the coffe dries out hopefully it shud work again else take it to a specialist!!

How bizarre! I dropped some earphones into some lemonade once - they worked for a while but then just stopped. I think it may be time for a new camera because the cost of someone opening up & cleaning it would not be worth it.

Im sorry but, i think you must put your camera into the coffee again add some sugar and taste it:))
This would be a new type like "coffemara"

That's so funny I spit coffee over my keyboard. Thank goodness THAT still works. There's not much you can do, I'm afraid. I hope it resumes normal functioning when it dries out!

LOL !! sorry but i just can't stop laughing.

Water conducts electricity. When electronics get wet, electricity can flow to places where it isn't supposed to. This often causes them to melt. If the water leaves salts or sugars when it evaporates (which also conduct electricity) behind or the electronics melt, the damage is permanent. Probably your digital camera is now an expensive paper weight.

Sugar is the killer of cameras and humans. Both get clogged up when you add sugar.

Seriously, there probably isn't much you can do. If it was an expensive camera you can try to have it repaired but that should have been done before it dried out. One tip is to try to put a little plain water in to rinse it out and then let it dry again. That is a last resort and probably won't work. Right now you have nother to lose.

Also, go on eBay and you might be able to find the exact same camera and model.

Panacea, your answer about water conducting electricity caught my attention. I wonder... If we drop a camera in water (not MINE, mind you! haha), I wonder if the best thing to do would be to IMMEDIATELY remove the batteries...? Just a thought; not a question.
