I have a sony 3.1 megipixel camera with zuess lens can I increase my pixel without trading camera off?

is their some kind of way I can up grade my camera without alot of expence? I would like it to be 8 pixels what does it need to be that big without buying new?

the best you can do is to change the compression level of your pictures. The Number of pixels in the Sensor is indeed fixed so you can't get more Megapixels without changing the camera.
You can, however, take larger file-size photos. Perhaps your camera is set to take pictures that are 640*480 pixels when it is capable of taking them at 1600*1200. also, it may be possible to shoot the pictures as TIF files without compression, rather than as Jpeg.
The trade-off there is that you don't get as many pictures on your Memory card as you would with Jpeg, but if you want the biggest and best photos from your Sony Camera you should read the manual or go thru the settings menus to see if you can take larger photos.
PS the number of Megapixels isn't a guarantee of quality. Many pros still do just fine with 3 Megapixels. Good Luck

No... the number of megapixels is fixed at the time of manufacture.

How about buying used then? You can't just upgrade parts of a camera like you can with a computer. If you want a better one than what you have, you are going to have to buy it.
