Camera care. Can I leave my lens attached with my DSLR all time?

Camera care. Can I leave my lens attached with my DSLR all time? Why not?

Sure you can! I do it all the time and never have a problem. And besides, it is recommended to do that anyway because even if you put a body cap after you remove the lens there's a brief moment when dust can enter your camera.

I always do! The longer you keep your camera sealed the better it will be at keep the dust out. I only have one lens at the moment so it stays on all the time.

Absolutely! Trust me, when it's closing time, the camera store doesn't go around removing all the lenses from the display DSLR cameras.

I just spent two weeks in China touring with my D70 and my 18-200mm VR never left the camera body. (ok, ok, so my daughter did borrow it for a couple of shots).

Just remember this tip: dust can ruin any DSLR picture. Be sure to, when you do change lenses, turn the camera body downward so dust is less likely to enter. After practice, most of us have gotten it down to a matter of seconds.

Also, when not in use, keep your camera & lens in a closed case. That will also help to keep your camera dustfree and protected.

Hope this is helpful.

I wonder why you would think you couldn't.

Of course, you can. It is the best way to keep dust out of your camera.

I'll just add my vote to George and the Ace. Yes you can and SHOULD leave a lens on your DSLR at all times.
