If I add a 2x telephoto lens onto my video camera, will the 20x optical zoom be 40?

hi, I have a canon gl2, and it has a 20x optical zoom. I like to videotape my brothers baseball games, and was wondering, if i buy a 2x telephoto lens, and i zoom in 20x on my camera, will that be like zooming in 40x? thanks alot -Nick

Effectively, that's exactly what it will do. Bear in mind that the camera shake will increase significantly so using a tripod would be a good option. Zooming may cut down available light making the image a little more grainy - especially approaching dusk.
