Which camera and lens are photo journalists are mostly using?

Most are using the Nikon D2X and a variety of lenses...

Canon e1dsmII, and wide angle zooms & prime lenses, 35mm, 17-40.
Some sigma lenses too.

this site shows the gear used by kelvin sites for his news gathering journalism - most of them are digital camcorders actually, so i am not sure if the info is of any relevance to you though.

but i believe that videos will usually tell a story better than a series of photos, but i may be wrong ... anyway, i hope the above info can be of help to you.
