DIGIAL CAMERA: Which is better in Lens? Canon? Nikon? or Sony?

DIGIAL CAMERA: Which is better in Lens? Canon? Nikon? or Sony?

I want to get the slim one and Lenz and Flash is pretty important I guess. Also sharpness of the picture. Any comments I would appreciate .

Which car is better? Chevy or Ford? Porsche or BMW? Mercedes or Lexus?

If you are "not a pro," perhaps you would do best by going with the recommendation of your local camera shop pro or a friend who has something that he/she likes. If you have someone who is willing to help you learn how to use a particular camera, add ten points to that brand in your decision making process.

Since you are talking about a "slim" camera, though, I guess you are looking for a point and shoot. Canon is ahead of Nikon in overall design, in my opinion.

Consumer Reports for November 2006 has ranked the Canon Powershot A620 as the best compact digital camera. It is becoming almost a legend for longevity at the top of various consumer lists. It looks like this model has been replaced by the A630, which I would expect to be just as popular. The A640 appears quite similar and shares the "600" series numbering, so I guess it's just another upgraded version of the now-classic A620. It looks pretty much the same except for baing a 10 MP camera. The continuous drive is a little slower, but the files are larger, so that's no surprise. I own a few Nikon DSLR's and I'd buy the Canon A630 or A640 for myself.

With this camera, you will find the memory card is a cute little token of thanks from Canon, but not much more. Buy a 1 GB Sandisk Ultra II or Extreme III card. You will NEED the increased capacity and write speed to fully realize the benefits of your camera.

If you want to trim the budget a little, the Canon Powershot A430, A530 or A540, are all great choices. You will still need a decent memory card as discussed above, though.

Canon is known for having the best lenses. You should settle for nothing less then a 4.0 mp but I have a 5.0 mp and flash is pretty average in most camera's.

PS please award best answer

Depends on what kind of camera you're getting. If you just want one of the small hand-held, all-in-one, point-and-shoot cameras, go for a Canon -- best bang for the buck all around and their lenses usually have the greatest zoom range. If you're talking about getting a professional digital camera that looks like the old 35mm SLR, go with Nikon -- Nikkor lenses are still the best for 35mm SLR cameras, standard or digital.

Both Canon and Nikon make great and mediocre lenses. Sony does not make their own lenses.

Select the camera that has the features you like and need. Then select and buy the best lenses you can. Most of the really good ones, cost as much or more than the camera bodies.

"Kit" lenses are ok, not great.

You've asked a very general question that's not the most pertinent feature about most compact digital cameras.

Frankly- the best compact digicam lenses are probably on Panasonics. Their designed by Leica, and are truly excellent. They've got the best 28mm wide angle zoom lenses, way better than the one on, let's say, the canon SD800IS. However, no camera has everything, and the panasonics have ccd's which don't have the best noise characteristics.

Overal image quality from a compact digicam- yes, the Canon's are usually right up there as top notch- but they are certainly not without their competition. Narrow it down to a few cameras that meet your size shape and price requirements, and then read the reviews.

Canon and Nikon.
Sony is not doing lenses.
