How to fix a loose focus turner on a camera lens?

I have a Rebel XTi, and the focus turner has become too loose to focus. Is there any way I can fix this myself?

Depending on the lens, you may be able to apply a layer of tape on the barrel of the lens to tighten it up. This is known to work on the Nikon 80-200mm f/4.5 one-touch zoom which is notorious for getting a loose throw over time.

If the lens is an expensive one the investment to get it properly fixed by the maker is relatively small compared with the lens cost itself.

No you have to send it back to Canon. Call up their customer service and ask for the closest repair center near you.
