Re: Digital SLRs. Should I take out the camera lens while storing the camera? You'd no more remove the camera lens then you would remove your tires when garaging your car.
That being said, if you are storing it away for an extended period (and miss all those great shots?), removing the lens might be a good idea.
When a lens is mounted to a camera, there are spring and idler tensions in play. If you remove the lens and use both endcaps as well as the body cap for the camera, then the tensions would not be a fatigue factor. Then definitely keep your camera equipment in a dust-tight cases. Avoid temperature extremes also, as heat will damage seals and dry up the lubrication. No.
Keeping the lens on the camera reduces the chance of getting dust on the sensor. There is no need to take the lens off to store the camera unless you are thinking of using original packaging to protect the camera and lens separately.
Are you thinking of short term storage with the camera otherwise in regular use, or long term storage where the camera will not be used for some time?
If it is long term storage, it is more important to think about how to prevent damage from fungal growth on optical components. You can avoid this by putting a desiccant like silica gel in the storage container. You should be able to get these from a pharmacy or good camera store. nope
