What's a lens company that has lens compatible with my Minolta Muxxum 3xi?

I just got this camera and no very very vey little about it, and Minolta cameras. I want to get it some new/better lenses but eBay didn't seem to have ANY lenses. But I don't know what other lens companies to look into. Any suggestions? Or any lesnes you know of. Also if you ahve any tips on this camera, gimmie them, they'd be appreciated =)

The 3xi is a good camera but has absolutely no manual modes. It is not a real good camera to learn photography with.

Sell it and find yourself a 7xi. A few more dollars but a much better return. I know what I speak of, I have a 3xi sitting on my desk right now. See pix.

In answer to your question, after Leica, Minolta is probably the best glass in the world. I would suggest you put a Minolta lens on your Minolta camera.

(If you want to be blown away by the quality of Minolta glass stay with the primes.)

There are two Minolta lense mount types. The new (auto focus) mount is called MAXXUM. Any of these fits on your camera. The old (manual focus) mount fits on cameras like the X-700 or something like a SRT-101. This was called the MD or even MC mount. MD mount lenses won't fit on your camera.

Like the others said, Minolta always made some seriously good lenses. If you can't decide at all, they made two really nice 50mm lenses. Both are good. Like the others, I probably wouldn't bother with off brand lenses on a Minolta either. Many of their lenses are excellent regardless of price. They also made an 85mm f/1.4 lens that is very impressive.

Interestingly, I recall that Minolta got sued by Exxon for having the "XX" in MAXXUM arranged in a certain way. Useless trivia, but some people think the lenses with the diagonally arranged "XX" are kinda cool.

Good luck.

You won't find any better lenses than Minolta for a Minolta cameras.

Before you start buying lenses, figure out what you really want.

* wide angle for landscapes and architectural shots (20 - 24mm)
* macro for shooting close-up shots (50mm, 100mm or 200mm)
* telephoto for shooting field sports or wild life (200, 300 or 400mm)

Look for good deals on craigslist in a city near you .. you can actually see, hold and tryout the lenses before you hand over your money and no shipping charges either

A link to the lens possibilities. Hopefully Minolta didn't do what Canon did and make older cameras and lenses obsolete. Check the link below and then take your camera in to a camera store that sells Sony products ... if the new Sony lenses work on your camera, then you are in business.
