Whats the difference between a wide angle lens and a fish eye lens?

Whats the best way of getting a digital camera with a good wide angle lens, is it possible for under 拢150!? Thanks in advance

Ok thanks so far, so judging by the answers a fish eye is well out of my price league, (and requires an slr) so i need a standard wide angle, i assume i should ask for a 20mm max 24mm then?

A fisheye lens has severe distortions away from the centre, and are wide angle lenses too!

With a fisheye lens the very centre appears normal whereas objects around the centre bow away from the centre.

A wide angle lens would not have the same deliberate distortion, but may have a similar field of view.

Mony digital compacts now come with a useful wide angle, look at the pansonic and ricoh range for compact slim cameras that have a 28mm wide angle lens with a 7x zoom.

That should cover everything you need.

The only cheaper cameras with fisheye lenses can be found at www.lomography.com though these are film cameras.

I personally am not keen on the fisheye effect, though it does have some useful but very specific applications

A fish eye will give you more of a long and narrow photo with some side distoration which adds to the uniqueness of the photo...the wide angle gives you a wider area in your photo with no distoration..

Depends on your camera brand as to the cost of lenses...check on Ebay and you can also go on line to many of the major retailers to find one...

You will probably have to purchase the camera and lens separate...most standard is an 18-55 lenses for ones that come with a lens.

A fish-eye is a lens designed to view a full 180 degrees and was first designed to inspect pipelines (like the Nikon 10.5mm lens (拢384.95 not including VAT).

A wide angle lens is designed to capture landscapes and architectural subjects with a minimum of distortion (20mm or 24mm).

At 拢150 you are only going to find a good P&S camera, but they do not have very wide angle lenses. Nothing wider than 28mm.

A fish-eye lens is a 'very' wide angle lens (giving you 180 deg. view with some obvious distortion), would have to be bought separately from the camera, as they aren't a standard lens type.
You might have to do some searching for it to see which make of camera it will fit. A camera that would be more suited for this is an SLR type.
