Canon 400D camera for 拢300ish or 450D camera for 拢540- is it better to spend the extra 拢250?

I can't decide between the two- 拢540 is a lot of money, and I'm not sure how much I'll be using the camera. But at the same time I want something that I won't be wanting to upgrade in 6 months. I'd be opting for the kit lens with either camera I reckon. Are there any other DSLRs worth considering in the same price range (Nikon D40x/D60, Sony A200/A350 etc.)?

I'd wait and go for the 450D, it has some advantages over the XTi, such as spot metering and live view. The 400D is an excellent camera, but.. there are many times, I wish I had spot metering. Also the 450D uses much less expensive SD memory cards, as opposed to the CF cards. The kit lens, which comes with the 400D does not have IS (Image Stability), but.. the 450D does have IS.... the lens alone is worth the additional $250.

why are you spending such a huge amount of money on camera body.DSLR's are almost the same, and the differences are in unimportant details.but lenses and especially good lenses are a lot different and they can make a huge difference, save on camera body and buy a nikon d40x and spend on high quality lenses.

First the xti (400D) is a very nice camera, and can give pro results.

If your use is for hobby, family, entering some contests etc.. get the xti and spend the extra on a better lens, that's where the BIG difference is. If you want to see some pics made from a xti visit frenchfx.com, all the pics there were mad using a xti and the 50mm 2.5 macro, or the 17-40 L lens, most were in a studio too.
