Will an older minolta AF lens (fits a minolta AF maxxum 5000) fit onto a newer DSLR camera, like a sony A100KB

Just wondering if they would be interchangeable.

Yes they will.

Minolta changed its lens mount from the "MC/MD" bayonet type to the "A" type in 1985 with the introduction of the Maxxum 7000 AF cameras. This mount was carried over to the later DSLR cameras produced by the partnership of Konica-Minolta. When K-M quit the camera business, Sony bought the DSLR line.

In addition to the Minolta legacy lenses, Sony has their own branded lens line and recently announced a Carl Zeiss line of lenses.

Buy the Sony A200 (I believe the A100 is discontinued) and enjoy using your lenses from your Maxxum.

Yes

Sony bought the Minolta camera division and built on the existing DSLR product line.

Minolta/Sony have not changed their lens mount since they introduced a brand new lens mount when they started making autofocus lenses.

So if it is a Minolta Autofocus lens it should work on any Minolta/Sony autofocus camera body, film or digital.

There is so little data on the Minolta AF and Sony AF compatability, you may want to take one of your lenses into a camera store that sells the Sony DSLR and actually check.

Some of the "blogs" have a lot of information that is base upon incorrect premisses or worse misunderstanding a term (my two favorites is confusing depth of focus with depth of field.and thinking that the "automatic" lens cover on point and shoot cameras is a second shutter.)

If and when you find out for sure, please inform us with the results of your test.

Yes, any Maxxum series lens willl work just fine on the Alpha bodies. There are some issues with the older minolta flashes though.
