My Kodak z710 camera doesn't want to focus with a close up lens?

I have the same camera & had the same issue trying to take a pic like that the other day.
I had to hold it super steady & hold my breath while snapping the pick.
It only goes "SO CLOSE" to the item you want to snap of pic of however (without a macro/close up lens) & I use a tripod when trying to get pics I can't focus on by holding it with my hands. If I seem shaky my pics are shaky looking no matter the set up I have as far as lens's go.
I got a small one for less than 10$ off of eBay (one came with my camera but I lost it).
Try reducing the zoom a tad bit and/or backing up also.

Has this been an issue before now? I ask this because you camera is over 1-1/2 years old.

The cameras closest focus is 12 cm ...at the lenses longest focal length (380mm) you will need a tripod the reduce the chance of camera movement and with the camera set for macro, the easiest way to focus is to move the camera back and forth
