Is it safe to use eye glass lense cleaner on camera lenses? |
Will it damage or affect the camera lens in any way? It will depend on the eyeglass lens cleaner. There's really two big worries--1) abrasion and 2) damaging the lens coating. In 37 years I have never used any liquid on a camera lens. I use lens cloths from Pentax and PhotoSilk. If there is any loose dust on the lens I brush it off using a lens brush. It looks like a tube of lipstick and I've had it 37 years. I personally wouldn't put any commercial liquid on a lens. I'd breathe on it a bit for moisture and use lens tissue. Stores like Best buy might have lens tissue, but small local cameras stores almost always have it. Why not buy a "multi optical cleaning solution" from Giotto? Plus buy a microfiber cloth. Then you're set, you should be able to use it both for lens and glasses. Vintage Music is right. Eye glass cleaner might mess up the special coating on a camera lens, cause they are different from eye glassses. |
