Camera shutter stuck- how do I fix it?

I bought my camera (which is a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S730) a little less than a year ago, and I didn't buy a warranty.

While I was using it yesterday, it fell and now the shutter lens is stuck about halfway out. I can turn the camera on, but when I do, it just makes an odd whirring noise like the gears are jammed inside, and goes to a black screen with white text that reads: "Turn the camera off and on again."

I can review my past photos, but I can't take new ones. I've tried pulling the lens all the way out and pushing it back in, but it won't budge.

Can anyone offer a solution on how to fix this without paying for a repair? I can't afford it at the moment.

Thank you so much.

Actually, the model of the camera is a Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55

woah, sounds so familiar to me, this happened to me day before last, but it was with a film SLR camera, and since it's so old i left it alone, i'm getting a better one soon anyway ( this time it's going to be a digital one ). Back to your problem, i had this happen to my little camera too :(, and i couldn't fix, i just left alone. I didn't have any money. I got a new one later, and it's in repair now, i just don't think these little cameras were meant to last :

things you should try:
1) go to your local walmart or wherever you got it from, and ask them if they have any solutions or ways you can fix the camera, i can't tell you anything about sony because i only deal with nikon and canon

2), oh, and if you got it from the sony website. just go here and look for the number

http://sony.com

Sorry i couldn't help more,
