My digital camera is broke whats broke though ?

my digi cam is broke i think its the lens because the LCD screen is fine, when im on the menu option its clear and colored properly, but when i go to take a picture it goes all multi colored even when i transfer to my laptop the pictures are crap plz tell me whats broke so i don't get ripped off when getting it fixed thx. . .

If it's a Canon, see this:

If Sony, Konica, or Minolta, see this:

And if Fuji, see this:

Only a few problems I can think of:

1) The problem is between the ground and the shutter button. This is most likely the case. Luckily, it is the cheapest to fix. If you take your camera in and this is the problem, you will get ripped off.

2) Its been dropped and the elements in the lens are out of alignment. This is probably going to be a very expensive repair.

3) The sensor can not white balance properly or has another major flaw. Again, probably a very expensive repair.

Now back to 1. Have you checked to make sure your camera is not in some mode like a color accent or color swap? How about the white balance? Try putting your camera in Auto White Balance and see if the colors look all funky still. Your manual can probably help you figure out what is going on. If you're certain your camera is in auto white balance and isn't in some color accent or color swap mode, then you should call your camera manufacturer's support line and they can work out the details of the repair.

Camera model and sample images would also be useful information if you could provide that.

It will cost about $200 to have it fixed.
They charge $150 just to look at it.
You might think about getting a new one.
Sorry

stop taking all those Myspace pictures and you wouldn't have a broken camera

Is it a Sony? If so I'll repost with further details including how to get a free repair.
