Is there any way to make a camera less scary to birds?

I have a lot of tamed wild birds that feed in our yard and I'd like to take photos but many of them, even the ones that I can hand feed, are terrified of the camera.

Why is this (is it the lens?)and what can I do to make the camera less intimidating to them?

put feathers on it!

How about putting it on a tripod and using a remote control to take the pictures

Leave an old broken camera outside with bird feed buy it

The best way to deal with an animal is to de-sensitize it...Works with horses

Let them get used to the fact that it is there- it is like someone shoving a UFO in your face- you would be startled. If they don't know what it is, then they will be scared.

My birds love the camera and actually pose for it....I noticed this while I was taking pictures of plants for a project, and they hopped up and posed...It was cute!

You already put it under blanket, or in box - does it make noise or smell?
Do the birds fright at sight/vision, oder/smell, noise? I can't think like a bird well enough other than though these senses. Do you point it at them? Like a gun? Some birds know rifles and gun profiles/noises.
Good luck - what about web camera?

this is sorta just a shot in the dark but make it look appealing, like get a cozy of something less creepy looking for it. or like put grass on it or something.

u have to sneak up on them. they get kinda scared especially if ur camera is black and has big lenses..good look my sis is a photographer.....she already took pics of birds but wen they were eating not to make them scared.....she had to sneak up tho and not so close to them.....

the flash freaks them out....
the guy using the camera scares them....
the camera must be new to them...
you could either camouflage the cam or take picture of them everyday and give them food afterwards so they'll feel comfortable around the cam..

try using a camouflage suit and stay at a distance and take snaps using zoom lenses . if you wanna be good photographer try not to use digital cameras.

turn off flash and zoom in on them...dont make any sudden movements

umh
try in the morning
go vry slowly near them
or try 2 b far away
