Which Lens should i get - 55-200mm or 75-300mm?

Hi, I'm getting a new DSLR camera (Sony a300) which comes equipped with a 18-70mm lens. But I also want to get an extra tele-photo lens. It's between the 50-200mm & the 75-300mm (both Sony). Of course the second offers a better range, but will I 'miss' that 70-75mm bit between the 2 lenses? Plus the shop has a special offer on which means the 75-300 is half the price of the 50-200, but if I'm better off with the 50-200, I will go for that!

thanks!

I think you should go for 75-300mm lens, even without its half-price promotion; the "Gap" between the two lenses 70 to 75 mm can easily be covered by walking 3-4 steps forward. The most difficult would be the gap on the other end, i.e.: 200-300.

I would definitely say the 75-300mm!

Most of the above lenses come with a macro function which is very handy and you can get excellent portraits using this method (if that's your fancy)

I use my 70-300 and my 50mm prime mostly.

The difference between 70mm and 75mm is miniscule. IMO there is unnecessary "overlap" between the 18-70mm and the 50-200mm. True, its only 15mm. My vote would be for the 75-300mm.

you'll never even notice the 5mm gap btw the lenses. go for more zoom, you'll use it. If you gonna chaqnge lenses to a zoom you want it to be worth your while.

75 - 300 you are covered then lucky man .

Go for the 75-300mm. great camera I have it
