Broke friends camera?

K, so basically by friends wanted me to take a picture of them. So my friend gave me her camera and i took a picture, than my other friend wanted a picture so I was trying to take picture. Than I accidently dropped my other friends camera. It's a very very expensive camera. And i feel really bad, because the lens is not straight put diagonal and the screen keeep on saying lens correction. Plus, she has valuable pictures on it. Should I buy her a new camera? Should i ask to replace the lens? Or should i just not do anything, since she asked me to take the picture? I feel really guitly. Please help

Unfortunately we hear about breaking the camera on a daily basis--and most likely the wrist strap was not used. I don't think point and shoot cameras are made to be held in the hand(s) as they're not designed with a hand grip.

I think to be fair, and to save your friendship, you should at least ** offer ** to replace it (as it will likely cost as much to mend it.)

I realize she asked you to take the photos, but had the precaution been taken, it might not have fallen out of your hand. (I'm not placing blame here--this is an expensive lesson). And honestly, you probably feel the same if you asked her to take the photo and she drops the camera.

Here's the bottomline.

If it was your camera, what would you expect your friend to do? Your friend handed you the camera for one picture of her in a group. Then, you used her camera for someone else's picture.

If someone loaned you a car, you assume responsibility for it, right? I've handed my DSLR to people who've handed it back, not wanted to handle such a "complicated and expensive" camera.

I doubt you can replace the lens alone, unless it's a dslr. And even then, the problem may be with the camera body and the lens mount.

Have her take the camera to a service center for an estimate. You need to decide what to do based on your feelings of responsibilty and friendship.

Do what is right, not what is convenient.

If all else fails, here's some simple things that you can do to try to fix it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

has she asked you to pay for a new one? but yeah you broke it so I guess you should pay something towards fixing it or getting a new one.

tell her to replace the lens.
to see if somethings wrong.
