i dunno which one to get for my canon sd1000. also any recommendations on a good brand for memory cards? It would depend on the image size & quality settings. Canon's tech support website lists the approximate file size for different settings. Just divide the size of the memory card by the approx. file size and you would get the approx. number of photos that you can take.
Any SD card would work just fine - but if you're concerned about brand names, I suggest Lexar & Sandisk. How much space a movie takes up depends on two factors: The resolution of the movie (640x480, 320x240, etc) and how many frames are taken each second at that resolution. Most camera now can take 30 or 15 frames per second at 640 and up to 60 frames per second at 320.
At the highest resolution and frame rate the SD1000 will do (640x480 at 30 frames per second), you'll get almost 8 minutes per gig. One thing to be aware of is that cameras often shut down movies after a certain amount of time. It may be that even though you have a 2GB card, your camera will stop filming at 1GB, making you start a second movie for the remainder. Check your manual for how long of a movie you can take.
Plus, check your manual to be sure that you can use 4GB cards, many cameras can't and most card readers can't read them so you may have to transfer via USB if you can use one. |
