My friend will help to buy me a digital camera in Japan. Please give some advice.?

My expense is 800 USD, a little more or less. I've not decided yet on brand name, maybe Canon or Nikon. I just want to take daily-life photos with high quality, especially at night and some landscape photos during vacations. I'd prefer to use an interchangeable lens with hood and high ability to zoom in and out. I also heard about wide conversion lens and tele conversion lens and I need advices on this as well.

I would seach online for the best camera, and than ask if it's avalable in japan cheaper.
I love my cannon camera, though it can be much smaller now with a biger screen, it was 250 and a deal at the time.

Buy Japanese goods in Singapore. It is very much cheaper in Singapore.
The Japanese tourists come to Singapore and buy Japanese goods to bring back to Japan.
