Best Digital Camera Choice?

My wants and needs come to a compact, high quality, point and shooter under $200...and I think I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to purchase a Canon Powershot A550...any opinions?

Probably the most popular and unbiased source for comparison reviews is CNET.com. If you click "digital cameras" on the lefthand column of the main page under "reviews," you can browse for cameras by price, brand, use, and combinations of those factors. In addition, I recommend organizing the search results by "editors' rating" rather than "review date."

The PowerShot A550 is ranked 7.4/10 with the following summary:

The good: Responsive performance; slightly above-average lens.

The bad: Images plagued with artifacts and fringing; small LCD.

The bottom line: This camera's low price tag and solid performance can help you forget that it doesn't have many bells or whistles.

Follow the link below to read the full review and owners' comments. I use CNET before purchasing any electronic or software because it is truly unbiased and trusted by my techie friends. Examples of A550 photos can be found in the Flickr link provided below.

that's a good choice :)
although, you didn't say
who wanted a camera... hmmm :/

anyway, canons are sufficient to be
compact, high quality, etc!

nice choice!!

one more thing, Sony's flash too much when taking
pictures.. i have a sony -- it's light, the screen is
huge, but i prefer canon :)

Canon is very good digital camera. I also like Nikon - good brand.

Should you want a cleaner [less artifacted] image in a smaller compact digital camera selling for $100 less, then read the following recommendation.

Even though I personally own this ultra compact camera, I would still like to highly recommend the purchase of a Nikon Coolpix L10 for the following reasons:

1. Besides taking well-exposed hi-quality 5 megapixel pictures, it uses a standard set of rechargeable double AA batteries which last a very long time;
2. Has a 3x optical zoom;
3. The flash setting for "red-eye" correction is on the navigator wheel and not within a submenu;
4. It's very small and light;
5. Uses inexpensive SD memory cards;
6. The digital video feature takes wonderful "sound" videos which are noise free. It records the piano very well with it's built-in microphone;
7. It comes with a USB 2.0 transfer cable which you connect to your USB computer port;
8. Has tripod mount on bottom of camera;
9. And the price is a mere $99 [sold at Samy's Camera - www.samys.com, and Staples.com.]

Review(s) can be found at www.amazon.com [Query: "Nikon Coolpix L10" along with pictures provided by satisfied purchasers.]

Good luck!

A better choice would be the A560...because it has the newest Digic III processor from Canon (the A550 doesn't). The latest processor includes better features. It also has a larger and slightly higher res. LCD screen.
And it's available for less than US$200 (online).
