Digital camera problem?

I have canon powershot A300, was working fine. But then the display (on shooting mode) started to become hazed by moving transverse white lines which used to disappear after holding for few seconds. After that, the white lines persisted longer & the photos took at this time has those lines & haze, even if I disable the display while shooting.
Now, the shooting display is totally black, with the moving lines, and so are the photos..
What could be the problem?

Like most of the people who answered before, it does sound like a CCD sensor problem. HOWEVER, and this is important, your camera is part of a service advisory by Canon and should be repaired for FREE. The only thing is to make sure that everything is working, that it will flash, or that the lens zooms. If not...you may get an estimate....but I haven't had that problem with Canon when we have customers come in with this problem.

What you can do is check out the link below and contact Canon directly. Only they can repair your camera for free. Good luck!

I had almost the same problem with my video camera. It is a different brand though. I had to send it in and get it fixed. If it's still under warranty then you shouldn't have to pay anything. Call Canon and check with them bc if it's doing that then its an internal problem that they will have to take care of.

Dead batteries?

The problem is caused by a bad Imaging sensor, if you dropped the camera or mishandled it, it could have damaged the sensor, or thrown of the optics and cause the camera to overload it's processing chip in order to obtain it's proper settings.

Do this, turn your camera off, leave if off for a couple of minutes. When you turn the camera back on and the lens is coming out of the camera, give it a nice little bump on the side. Try this a few times, if that doesn't work, it's your image sensor, and you could get it fixed, but it's probably cheaper to just get a new camera.

had the lines not appeared in the photos, it would have been a lcd problem.. but since the lines r coming onto photos, the problem seems to be with the image sensor... maybe some moisture has accumulated or as joshua mentioned, it may have been from dropping the cameras...
if u r a rookie, the best option would be to take it to a store and have experts check it out...

The problem could be that your 4-year old camera has come to the end of the trail. It sounds like the sensor is bad.

Next question... It would definitely be cheaper to buy a replacement camera than to fix this one.
