Canon Help!?

I got a new canon a540 digital camera..ive downloaded all the software on the pc...now wen i connect the pc to the camera it does detect it but wen i open the software to put my pics on the comp it says there no camera connected....what shalll i do?

Windows says that the cam has installed but when i go to Camera and Scanner Wizard it says it doesnt detect any cams...

When you say your PC detects your camera, what exactly is it doing? Is it popping up the dialogue box that asks what you want Windows to do? If so, just select ZoomBrowser (your Canon software) and click on OK. You should see an image transfer dialogue box open and start counting images as it downloads.

Assuming you're using Windows XP, this will assign your camera directly to your software so you should not have to open it yourself, the PC will do it automatically.

If this isn't your problem, then I would de-install the software, read the instruction booklet very carefully and then install the software as per the booklet.

If you have an older PC and you are not using Windows XP, you might want to upgrade. Your life will be a lot easier if you keep your O/S current.

Something else to consider is a memory card reader. These are cheap - under $50 - and will download your pics a lot faster and with less fuss than connecting your camera all the time. Your software will think it is the camera. You will have the added benefit of being able to easily reformat your memory card, as opposed to trying to do it through the camera's software. Canon engineers are very smart, but they did a poor job when it came to card management.

If your P.C. is Running XP operating system, you should only need to load the Picture manipulation software.
As XP has the Drivers for PICT BRIDGE connections already!

If that fails, strip out software and re-install.

Never Used any of My Pro Canon SLR's on a P.C.- so this is New to me!

If Windows detects your camera, then just use the Microsoft Camera and Scanner Wizard instead of the Canon software. Find it in your start menu, under "Accessories".

make sure you have the camera in the review mode.
also, go to canonusa.com - there is a fireware update
for the camera.
try connecting the camera before turning on the computer
and see if the computer reads it.
