What's wrong with my digital camera?

Whenever I try to take a picture, the view screen goes all stripey and the only colors it seems to show are purple, white, and black. When I take the picture, it basically comes out looking like a lot of stripes, nothing at all like what it's supposed to be. It looks like this also when I pull them up on the computer. I can view previously taken photos just fine, though. The camera is a Canon PowerShot S230.

have you checked your memory card? it sounds like something might be wrong the card. you should try getting a new one or have a professional check it out. make sure you aren't mixing the types of batteries (e.g. Duracell with the Energizer bunny....) i have a Canon A630, and i'm absolutely luvin' it!!! Canon is a good quality camera and should have come with a warranty worst case scenario....

You must have turned it upside down and all the 1's and O's fell out....Just kidding...I have no idea...just could'nt resist the smart a*s comment...Have a good day...;-}

If this is within warranty period send it to Canon. Look for recalls on the Canon website. Your camera maybe under recall. If you did not damage the camera than you can get it fixed with Canon.
