Would a webcam or digital camera be better for videos on Youtube?

I would like some suggestions for digital cameras or webcams that produce excellent quality videos but are somewhat low in cost. I used to have a 5.0 MP Canon Powershot that took vids under 3 minutes but I'm looking for something else. So which would be better, a webcam or a digital camera? Then...are there any suggestions as to a certain camera (i.e Kodak (something) or Canon (something), or Minolta, etc)

I would get a regular video camera - look at the Canon line - they are my fav. A webcam isn't going to give you the best quality. Depends on what kind of videos your taking also though....but you can probably find a cheaper canon video camera....check ebay for used ones if you don't want to spend $ on a new one. :)

IF you have to choose between the two, I think I would go w/ the camera though....best to take video of both and compare. :)

We used to say "garbage in - garbage out".

In the past month I've been experimenting and doing the same thing (just not for the you tube). I find that many Canon digital cameras with video mode is "good enough" if it has 640x480 @ 30 FPS. But that is not to say that it is the same even as a cheap video camera.

I also experiment with video file format (size), and found that motion JPG is about 4x to 10x larger than necessary. If the images are "processed" (just loaded and then saved at 1 Mbits/s) in windows movie maker, it can save 75% to 90% of file size / space.

I usually use Sony TRV900 (3 CCD) for videos. But lately I just want to get a small "travel" all in one camera.
