hi everyone, i just came back from vacation. when i went to my destination, my family and i went to a zoom. many of the animals were small and i used my digital zoom to capture the pictures of them in action. I have a great canon sd630. its a six megapixel camera with a 3x optical and 12 x total digital/optical zoom. i wanted to send my images to be printed but i know many of them will come out poorly because i used the 12x digital zoom over and over again. the pictures look clear and crisp on the camera but i know i many have complcations. what size should i have these images printed at? 4x6 may be too large for these images. It seems that you are not alone in the optical vs. digital zoom.
When deciding on a camera, only the optical zoom will give you high quality photos. I really don't know why camera manufacturers even put the "digital" zoom options on the cameras, because you can do a better job enlarging the image using photoshop elements or some other photo program after you have loaded it to your computer
Go ahead and have some 4x6 prints made (under $.20 each most places) and see what you get. As long as your camera was set for its highest resolution when you took the shots, you should be fine. I used a 6 megapixel camera for over four years to create professional images and made 11x14 prints with no problem (from an unedited full frame).
Good luck Hi
as you have already done it ... you can't make your photos like new ,, but try photoshop to edit your photos and adjust sharpness . also make some printouts and you'll get better results.
Don't watch photos on PC .. try to see On TV .. you'll get good Results .. definitely thank
