There is 14 modes, i just dont clearly understand what they mean.
the symbols are:

C
"a video camera (which is video recording of course)
2 boxes (one overlapping diagnaly from the other)
SCN
A whistle with 2 lines below the part where the lips would go

A star above somebodys head
A mountain
and a face
i understand some of these, but my uncle who gave me this camera because he bought a new one, he didnt give me the manual.
the camera model is an
"PowerShot A95 Digital camera with a optical zoom of 3x"
http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-A9...
thats the link for what it looks like.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH =D Try this link to the user manuals for your PowerShot A95. P = program mode
Tv = shutter speed priority
Av = aperture priority
M = manual mode
SCN = special scenes
Star over someone's head = night scenes (I think)
Mountain = landscapes
Face = portraits
But, you really need the manual to learn how to use these modes - it's pretty involved. Try going to the Canon website to download a manual. I suggest you download the user manual from Canon.com
Just click on the link below, and click on your camera model (it should be the first one) then click on 'Product/Software Manuals' in red...to download the 'Quick Start Guide' and also the 'Camera User Guide'.
Then you should read them page by page to get a better understaning of how your camera functions.
But to give you a quick start...
P (Program mode) When you select this, it's much like Auto (the camera will select the correct aperture & shutter speed), however you have the added control to adjust settings such as ISO, white balance, exposure compensation etc.
TV (Shutter Priority) you select the shutter speed, the camera selects the correct aperture.
AV (Aperture Priority) you select the aperture, the camera selects the correct shutter speed.
M (Manual) you have complete control to select your aperture AND shutter speed, as well as all other settings.
C (Custom) You can save your favourite settings, for easy access at any time.
etc. etc...
Anyway, have a good read of the manuals...if you are really interested in learning how and when to adjust and use these settings, then learning more on the basics of photography would be the only other thing I would suggest you do. There are plenty of photography tutorial sites available (just do a search).
good luck... the manual shows you each one.
