I am completely digital camera-illiterate. I have no idea how memory cards work. I just got the canon powershot sd800 camera as a gift. I have taken 7 pictures and it says memory card full. The memory card is sdc-16m. This memory card only fits 7 pictures? That seems a bit off. Am I doing something wrong? Which memory cards hold several hundred pictures? I told you guys I am completely camera-illiterate :) thanks. The SD memory card that came with your camera is small - only 16 MB. Each pic you take at good resolution is a little over 2 MB. So yes, on that card you only can store 7 pics.
That card is really only for store demonstration or immediate use after gift opening. Hardly any camera companies give you a decent sized memory card with the camera. You are not doing anything wrong, but you need to buy a bigger memory card.
According to Canon, a 1 GB SD card will hold about 300 pics at the highest quality (more if you use lower quality). These are about $20 if you watch for a sale.
Get an even bigger card if you want to use the high quality video. Canon's video is great but takes lots of memory card space.
Have fun with your camera! Yours is a good one. There is a lot to learn about digital photography, but that can be great fun too.
Good Luck you need to go and purchase a large card, Your camera uses SD memory. A gig would get you about 150 pictures on that cameras highest quality settings. So a 2 or 4 gig card may be what you want for holding anything around 300-800 pics. Camera companies do not provide you with a large card to begin with. Your camera comes with internal memory. The internal memory is very small. So, to get more pictures you need to purchase a SD memory card. Most stores carry them. The prices range from $20 to $80 depending on their size. The bigger amount, which is 2gig that can hold up to 400 to 500 pictures, the more the card costs. For one of my cameras I bought a 512mb card for $25. That give me room for 89 pictures. |
