Can anyone recommend a 2 gb SD memory card for my new digital camera?

I will be purchasing a new Canon Powershot S5 camera shortly (my first decent digital camera). I need to get an SD memory card, and I'd like 2 gb of storage. The trouble is, there are so many brands out there (Kingston, Panasonic, SanDisk, etc.) and so many types within each brand (I guess some are faster than others).

My main criteria are:
- reliability
- price (under $50)
- speed while taking photos with the camera
- available at Circuit City where I'm purchasing the camera

I am less concerned with speed for transferring photos to my computer - I won't be using the camera too often except on vacations, etc.

Any and all opinions are appreciated.

Thanks for the answers so far - I had heard about problems with some "off-brands" and that's why I asked the question. If anyone actually HAS one that they have been using and can recommend that particular brand, please do.

Lexar, Sandisk and Kingston all use the same chips in their memory cards and are all reliable. I can speak for all three brands, as I've used them all. For my dSLR, I only use Lexar and Sandisk.

Dude... they're all the same... maybe except for speed, unless you're a professional photographer who has exacting standards, you should be alright with a generic brand... try using shopzilla and they should be able to show you the cheapest one around, with shipping included.

try going to www.tigerdirect.com

it doesnt matter what brand as they are all the same speed...though I think that SD Pro (if there is a such a thing) may be a bit quicker...but the difference in speed is negligeble.

hope this helps.

All the brands you mentioned are reliable and fast enough; I usually choose either Sandisk or Transcend for their price, capacity, speed, reliability and reasonable price, although Kingston is OK too.

But keep in mind that upwards of a certain speed (about 80x, or 鈥淯ltraII鈥?in the case of Sandisk) will not make the camera go any faster, and you'll only notice the extra speed when transferring photos to your computer with a good card reader.
