Does anyone know what is the best non-rechargeable battery for a digital camera?

I have a Canon Powershot camera which takes 4AAs and the sales guy at Best Buy talked me into the nimh rechargeable batteries and they are NEVER charged when I need them (I feel like I wasted $45). I have small kids and have to admit it is hard for me to get into the habit to remember to keep the darn things charged. So when I want to grab my camera it usually is good for just a few shots if that.
I tried the new Duracell Pix batteries that say they last twice as long as the alkalines but they gave me about 50 pictures. Are the nimh my only answer? Why can't the camera or battery companies figure out how to get as many pictures out of a digital camera as you used to get out of a film camera.

Thanks!

Nimh batteries (rechargable) are much better for high current devices like digital cameras (the flash and LCD use up a LOT of juice). Regular alkaline (non-rechargable) batteries will work but you will go through a TON of them. Lithium (not Lithium Ion) batteries will last longer but are much more expensive.

Best to buy a second set of Nimh's. Charge one set and put in the camera. Charge the second set and put in the drawer. When you replace the ones in the camera, put them on the charger right away. It's just like having a steady supply of alkalines.

the "E square" batteries from Energizer are definately the best. They last much longer than any others I have found. Available at wal mart and pretty much everywhere else.

Digital cameras are battery eaters. I had same problem. I contacted Camera store and got AC adopter. Most Canon Powershot and Sureshot cameras can be used on electricity. Only time u need batteries is when u go out. when u buy batteries look on back of battery pack it will tell u if batteries are better for digital camera. not all batteries are good for it.

try searching this store it is associated to amazon

lithium batteries.

For non-rechargeable battery, I'll recommend the Energizer Lithium. It's more expensive but they actually out-preform the NiMH rechargeable that you've got since they are rated at 3000mAH and they have lower self-discharge rate compare with NiMH battery when not in use.

The Duracell Pix battery only rated at 1500mAH. Not even close to your rechargeable battery.

Rechargeable battery still my first choice when it comes to digital camera battery. The only problem is they self discharge very quickly when not in use. My advise is get yourself a 15mins charger. They'll charge your rechargeable to 90% in just 15mins and you'll be ready to take hundred + pictures with a single charge.

lithium are the strongest. and NiMH do discharge themselves if left for a week not being used. they are the better of the rechargeables.
