A question about my digital camera?

Well, I have a PowerShot S45 Canon camera that my dad 'gave' to me. It'd been working fine since a few days ago.

I'll start my camera up and the main screen thing will turn on and such, but whenever I take a picture it comes up black.
Also, on the window where you can see the picture you're about to take, I can't see anything but black either.

I've tried messing with the settings, flash, filters, but nothing seems to work. I tried recharging the battery. I've tried just about everything.

Help?

Check your lens cover (cap),,, sounds like you left it on
or it's not opening up.

from a photographer's point of fiew i would say that the camera has either had a bump or is old and starting to pack in. ask your dad to see if he has had the same problem when he had it. all anyone can tell you to do really is take it in to a camera shop so it cam be repaired or if its under garanty yhen get it replaced
hope this helps. good luck
