I want to buy a inexpensive digital camera?

I'm deciding between buying a 5mp or a 7mp, I am very concerned on price, would prefer to spend $100, but willing to spend more if there is a big difference in quality. I hear canon makes good digital cameras, any other suggestions. My friend had a sony and it was crappy, so I don't wanna get one of those.

samsung 630

I've got a Kodak Easy Share and it's been great. It's been dropped, scratched, sat on, and slobbered on by the dogs and it still works.

I got a fujifilm digital camera that's 6mp with 5x zoom. 6mp is good enough for pics up to 8 x 10 size. I got it on clearance from wal-mart about 5 months ago for just under $100 and I love it and ppl constantly tell me what a nice camera it is. Of course, that particular camera is sold out by now, but you can find good cameras for a decent price if you look. I recommend watching clearances at places like wal-mart or target. it may take a while but you can find something.

Also, I got a fujifilm camera because my old 35mm was fujifilm and I loved it (until it became outdated) and it worked great. Still works! I've had the digital one only a few months but so far I have absolutely no complaints!

Rarely is Sony crappy so it's likely to have just been the one model, or maybe even just your friend. But there are also other good brands, too.

More megapixlls sounds good, but what good is a Lamborghini that does 185 if you can only go 65? 5 megapixels is very good and higher than that is only necessary if you're going to make hardcopy prints in excess of 8x10. (Which means you've already spent more money on your printer than you will on your camera)

For digital cameras these days, megapixels is only a starting point. More importantly is what features you get for the price. For example, a 3x optical zoom is fairly limited and digital zoom gets grainy real fast. I'd pay more for a 5mp with a 10x optical zoom than a 7mp with only a 3x optical zoom. Image stabilizer is also an important consideration, otherwise you'll end up needing a stable tripod for almost any shot you take. Flash shots are going to be a concern before long and cheaper camera have cheaper flash. You may want to direct your money toward that rather than more megapixels.

And almost all cameras require add-on memory to really be any use. Standard SD cards are about the cheapest, so you'll need to consider the cost of memory for your camera.

While we all want the very highest quality, price often gets in the way, and 5mp is perfectly adequate for anyone that isn't a professional photographer.

I just bought a digital camera (a Kodak EasyShare) for my son and paid far less than $100. It's a 5MP. I caution you on going to 7MP on a very inexpensive model, as that level of resolution will reveal every flaw in the optics and image processing (lots of grain/noise on high ISO/low-light settings, etc.) Hint: if you're most price-conscious, go for one that's a generation or two old. And look for refurbs. They'll still come with at least a 90-day warranty and you'll be able to save big money.

I like Canons, but you pay a bit for the name. Kodak makes a good, solid, introductory camera that is a decent value. At this range you'll need to be careful about getting fixed-focus lenses or other odd quirks.

I have been researching on cameras myself It was between the canon SD800is, the Kodak v705 and the Leica C-lux 2
I couldn't decide so I bought all three of them the SD800is is really good it has an image stablizer and the picture quality is superb it also has an panorama stitch assist so you can take long pictures. The kodak is also pretty good but not as good as the canon ofcourse. The picture quality is mediocre but the good features about it is that it can take a really wide range photo it has to lens which allows it to take wide range photos. The best feature is has that really amaze me is that there is a panoramic stitching INSIDE the camera not like the canon you need to stitch the pictures on your computer but the kodak can actually be stitched using the camera. last but not least the leica no special features great pictures very over priced 599.99 about nothing really special i Just liked it because its a leica. the kodak v705 can be found online for about 200 dollars the canon can be found for about 300 hope this helps you.
