I'm considering the purchase of a Canon Digital Rebel XT 8MP Digital SLR Camera. I'm told that the sensor will require periodic cleaning.
Can anyone tell me how frequently the sensor might have to be cleaned and about how much the cleaning will cost?
I'm far from being a camera expert, so any other advice would be very welcome too.
Thanks Hey, if your heart is set on a digital SLR, more power to you! The Rebel XT or XTi is a great camera that's easy to use in automatic modes, but very flexible. You won't soon outgrow it.
When I first got my DSLR, I had to clean the sensor twice in the first month. Since then, (3 years ago) it hasn't needed it at all. If you observe care when you change lenses, then you and most photographers will be just fine.
1. Don't change lenses too often. I purchased a Nikon 18-200mm VR lens for myself, just so I could keep the same lens on for virtually all situations. (Though I do changes lenses when the occasion requires)
2. When you do change lenses, do it in as dustfree an environment as possible. Obviously, you avoid doing this on windy days at the beach!
3. When you change lenses, first remove the rear lenscap from the lens. This gets it ready for a quick mount on the camera body.
4. Remove the previous lens with the camera body facing down. Dust likes to fall into camera bodies that are open and vulnerable.
5. Mount the new lens, with the body still facing downward.
6. Cap the rear of the previous lens with the protective rear lenscap as quickly as possible and put it in your camera bag.
Practice this at home. I recommend that you do it while watching tv. You should be able to do it without looking! (Hey, if I can do it with diaper-changing, than anyone can do it with lenses. lol)
Sensor cleaning products are out there, but it's not as prevalent a problem as some make it to be. Here's an informative article for you. If you have any more questions, please just ask!
http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/dirt-200... Can i ask why you are going to buy a DSLR? do you really need to buy one? do you know about the bridge cameras? if you are interested in getting to know how to use a camera and don't want to spend 1,000s on a camera try this camera instead...Fujifilm Finepix S9100. it has all the features of a DSLR yet you are only going to spend about $350-500 on it. it comes with a 10.7x optical zoom along with a 2x digital zoom. optical zoom in a 35mm film camera is equal to 28-300mm lens. See how much you will spend on lens that go upto 300mm. this camera is either automatic or you can switch to manual and adjust everything you want to on the camera. I too was going for the DSLR and i am not a pro at all, then a friend let me borrow this for a week and i was suprised by the pics i took. Look up this camera in the internet and read the reviews...the user reviews...this camera is a step down from DSLR but this will let you grow with it and down the road when the DSLR becomes much cheaper then switch over if you want. I say why buy a Porsche when you first learn to drive and wreck it? Why not work your way up and learn to drive then buy the porsche. |
