For a Digital Camera, which Lens amongst Carl Zeiss of Sony or Nikkor of Nikkon or Canon's gives best picture?

For a Digital Camera, which Lens amongst Carl Zeiss of Sony or Nikkor of Nikkon or Canon's gives best picture?

The Zeiss lenses are overrated, and their glory days are in decades past in any event. There are people who rave about the sharpness of the images, but when you actually test the lenses it just doesn't seem to be that way.

Both Canon and Nikon have excellent glass, the finer points that prompt photographers to choose one over the other have more to do with features (speed of autofocus, vibration reduction, ring placement etc) than optical quality. The general consensus seems to be that Canon has slightly better designs at the telephoto end, Nikon is arguably a little better at the wide-angle end.

But there are pros who use both systems happily.

Nikkor, baby! Best glass out there.

That's really hard to say without being overly general. If one is considering point-and-shoot, it's key to look at individual models and compare those cameras to each other, as the different models have different lens units, even if they are still the same brand. I wouldn't say that one brand is better in general because of superior lens build or quality. Many point-and-shoot cameras have lens problems not because of their brand, but because of their small size and often telephoto capability, which introduces some distortion, notably in the corners and straight lines can sometimes turn curved.

Among SLR lenses, again, it is difficult to say without being too general. Canon makes lenses for both value and professional markets, as does Nikon.

for my glasses carl zeiss are the best. but for a camera it suppose to be zeiss again but i would suggest you to buy (if that's what you want) a canon camera or maybe nikkon. sony is more expensive but not especially better. i've seen picture taken with different cameras with the same specifications and i don't really see the difference.

I own the DSCR1 and and I think the Carl Zeiss has excellent shots, I am not sure about the other ones but I am sure they are just as nice though. It really just matters on what you prefer to have, that is the big question.

Its changed days...new technoligy on making lens, old established, like Carl Zeiss have had to change...Now I would say Canon.
