Best digital camera to buy for sightseeing in Europe?

i have been considering the Canon digital rebel but don't know too much about any other cameras. Help!

I completely disagree w/ Petra. I purchased a 300D before going to Hawaii and had no problems. I used it for a month or so before my trip and got familiar enough to be comfortable.

Check out the XTi, which is an incredible camera. You can get the body only for around $700. A 28-135mm IS lens is a great walk around lens. If you get a kit lens (18-55mm), it does work well for wide angle shots.

The rebel is a perfect camera. My cousin is into photography and he says the Rebel-Series is the best camera's out. Look at this website for kits and cheaper prices.

I have a canon rebel...best camera I've every owned for the money...buy it and you will not be disapointed and have a fun vacation

try a review site such as five.tv/gadgetshow and look up past reviews. they tested cameras in the last series.

If you have no experience at all with film or digital SLR cameras, then the Rebel would probably not be a good choice.
It all depends on whether you want to lug around the weight of an SLR (plus an extra lens or two).
But, if you are happy with a non compact, then the Rebel would be good. But be warned...the kit lens that comes with it, is fairly poor...so you need to buy a better lens, which will cost more than the camera body alone.

Almost any good compact digital camera would be perfect to use because of it's size.
One with a high optical zoom (10x, 12x) would be a very good choice.
Look at Canon S3 IS, Sony H2 or H5 (these cameras are not ultra compact)
Fujifilm Finepix F30 would be the best compact to use, particularly for low-light and indoor shots of churches and museums etc (using high ISO, handheld, no flash). Because the use of flash is mostly prohibited.

Also, make sure you have plenty of memory with you...because the last thing you want is to run out of storage space.
A portable HD storage device is a good idea, because you can easily upload your photos to it on a daily basis..so you never run out of card memory. My husband and I shot at least 10GB of photos when we went to Europe last year, and found the portable HD invaluable.

You need a camera for traveling overseas, you might want to consider cameras that use AA batteries where you can get them anywhere instead of dedicated batteries, you have to buy extra charger adapter to work with that country standard electricity current.
