Which digital camera should I purchase -- the Kodak 8MP EasyShare C875, or the Canon 6MP PowerShot A540?

The price difference between the two doesn't make a difference, but I am wondering which is a better quality camera. Other than personal use, I'd like to use the camera for art and I'd prefer to be able to print out photos that are as large as 8x10. Thanks!

If you're not as tech savvy, I say the Kodak. However, if you're familiar with the functions of a digital camera, then get the Canon for sure!

Kodak (It has better pixels.)

Canon

kodak 8MP it's awsome! i have it

You should get a PowerShot A540

If you don't mind spending a little more get the New Canon A640 it is 10mp where the A540 is 6mp

canon, theyre better than kodak

I'd ask you to consider the Canon A630 as a closer match for the Kodak. The Kodak actually looks like a nice camera - according to specifications only, as I have no experience with it - but it lacks an optical viewfinder. If you can deal with that, it is obviously priced more favorably.

Large LCD viewfinders eat batteries. It seems nice to have a big LCD monitor, but hey are power hungry. You will have to do what you can to turn the thing off as soon as you don't need it any longer. Set it to shut off at the shortest possible innterval after you take the picture. Set it so that it doesn't not display unless you tap the shutter button to wake it up. Even this will not go a long way towards conserving batteries.

Kodak C875 is a good camera (@ approx $300 US) with 8MP (pixel) and an optical zoom of x5. This is a good combination of price, Optical zoom and Pixel. The optical zoom helps in taking shots of distant object (brought closer). However if you need more zoom, Kodak has now Z710 (7 MP and x10 zoom @ approx $300 or less), Z612 ( 6 MP and x12 zoom @ approx $330 or less) and P712 (7 MP and x12 Zoom with better Video mode specs @ appro $500).
Similarly if not restricted by budget, Cannon PS S3 IS is a new addition with 6 PM and x12 Zoom @ $430 US approx. Cannon has less repair frequency (statistically).

In the same high Zoom league you will find Olympus SP 510 UZ with 7 MP and x10 optical Zoom @ approx $330 US.

Similarly Sony newer release DSCH5 (or DSCH5B for black colour) is 7MP and x12 optical zoom @ $475 or less.

Ignore the digital zoom because its purpose can be achieved in other ways. Digital zoom is achieved by sacrificing the picture quality.

Wait for boxing day and watch for prices but look at the models to get familiar with before that day.
I like the specifications of Kodak P712 for Video editing (besides other features)but the price is holding me.
I would like to combine video clips to make a continuous video from two or more clips. Has anyone seen such capability on other digital cameras.?
