Either a Canon EOS 5d or a Nikon D80/200
Which brand would you reccomend?
And also for a digital camera a Canon SD-630.
Is that a good camera? the D200 hands down. One of the finest cameras in the world for under $2000.00. The 5D is a full frame camera, so none of Canon's "digital" lenses will work with it .. look at the 30D if you want to use them.
The Nikon D200 would be the clear choice if you choose the Nikon. In addition, the D200 has addition features that non of the Canon cameras have. The most important to me is the Image Comment feature where you can input your copyright notice and embed it on each of your images as you take the shots.
It also has Image Authentication (used to prove the images have not been manipulated - legal and other issues can make this feature indispensable)
And last but not least for many photographers is the remote flash Command Mode)
The Canon SD-630 is a fine compact digital camera and uses the state of the art Li-ion battery. It uses the SD memory card (most used by other compact digital camera makers, but not all) as well as does the Nikon D80.
The Nikon D200 and all the Canon DSLR's use the professional level CF card. all 3 are good
go for the one you like
I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras and learn as much as they can from the internet.
Go to the store and hold them and try them to see what they feel like and how they take pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.
Good Luck

digital camera GUIDE
be sure to check titles on the left side
the guide should answer your questions Nikon D-80 Canon and Nikon are both good choices.
While you're comparing, you might want to look at the latest from Pentax, the K10D. This is a 10 megapixel camera with Image Stabilization in the body. It also accepts all Pentax K-mount lenses dating back to ones designed for the original K-1000 film camera. You'll have to use manual focus but you have access to a lot of quality glass. You can see a review of the camera in the Aug. 2007 Shutterbug magazine or on line at shutterbug.com. |
