Whick digital camera brand is better? sony or canon?

Depends on what you want. Generally a Canon is better than Sony, but it all depends on the model. A Canon Powershot is not in the class of a Sony Alpha, for instance. Or the Cybershot is not in the class of a Canon EOS.

But that being said, I would stick with a Canon - better pocket camera, and also better SLR line. It's a little bit subjective, I know - but many Canon Powershots have manual setting which is just fabulous and the EOS have so much after market accessories for you to choose to.

Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Casio, Pentax and a whole lot of others use SD memory cards.

Sony uses a memory card that only will work with other Sony products.

Both Sony and Canon are fine cameras but as you can see there are some limitations when it comes to replacing a Sony in four or so years ... you will still have to buy a Sony ... no other options

They're both on level playing field. You pay more for canons with the same features and quality as sony, but sony uses memory stick PRO DUOS with their cameras instead of SD cards. I personally chose Sony and have yet to regret it.

Fhoto Ace is wrong about replacing cameras. You can get another brand, you just can't use the same memory card. Who cares? You can but a 1GB SD card on amazon for like $7!

Sony makes excellent cameras, all in all very little difference between Sony and Canon. True if you buy a Sony
you have to buy their memory stick which is not compatible with other brands. But really, how often does one buy memory cards?

I've been using Canon cameras for almost 30 years and just a few months ago got my 1st Canon DSLR...XTi.
