be very wary of buying on the web. check the store really good. this place has excellent customer service and no tax. ive dealt with them for yrs.

of the 2, I like the Canon XTi as the Nikon D40/D40x is limited as to which lenses you can AF with.

I am a Pentax K10D shooter myself and IMHO beats the XTi, D40/D40x hands down at a similar price point.

I have a D70 with the 18-55 lens. I don't use that lens. Instead I use a 28-200. It's not as wide angle, but the zoom is obviously better. I find it much more versatile and it's roughly the same size as the 18-55.

The main difference between the Canon and the Nikon is the auto focus technology. I find I am able to focus and shoot faster with the Nikon. But that's just my opinion. Try it yourself.

My advice, buy the camera body and get the 28-200 lens separately. Or sell the stock lens on ebay and use the money to buy a flash.
