I have a Canon SD10 digital camera and I find it annoying that it can only take 2 minute videos. I never understood the point in having a 2 minute limit when my memory card can handle much more. Is there any way I can increase or remove the limit? Some point and shoot cameras can shoot long sequences. They will continue shooting until your memory card is filled.
Most P&S cameras limit the shooting sequences to times from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, but that varies from camera to camers and is not manufacturer dependent.
Since the shooting time is controlled from firmware in the camera, changing the video time limit is not possible.
You can look at the link below for cameras which do have unlimited video sequence times. Example: Canon PowerShot TX1
Note: Most video editors rarely use cuts that are longer than a minute or so. I once used a camera with a 40 second video sequence to video a whole ten minute short. Of course I had a good story board to work from and did a number of takes of each scene, but it worked fine. That is the limit on your camera if you want it to go for longer buy a new camera No, that's the way they made all older cameras. It's in the chips. |
