I have a Canon SD450 digital camera & Sony MiniDV PC109 camcorder. Do most tripods work w/both?
I'm confused on whether tripods are generally compatible or you need to be very specific on picking a model that works with each particular device. Obviously, I'd prefer one that works with both the camera and camcorder. Ideally, I need a general answer (whether that connector on tripods are universal) and a recommendation on a specific tripod that would work on my two devices. I really appreciate your help. Thanks! As a general rule, tripods are fairly generic and have a screw that fits most cameras. (There are two somewhat standards sizes -- 3/8ths and 1/4 by 20 -- and many tripods come with screws or an adapter sleeve for both).
It is only when you start going with quick release systems (such as the arca-swiss plates) that things start getting very specific to a camera.
The "best" tripod? There is no such thing. Things to consider: a) weight; b) price; c) stability; d) ease of setup; e) height; f) what type of head (pan/tilt/ball/etc). A great sumary of pro-level tripods is at http://www.bythom.com/support.htm . One final thought: avoid using the center post that cranks up -- it really reduces the stability. |
