Would you reccomend the Canon SD600, SD630, or SD700 Digital Camera?

Of this bunch, I would definitely recommend the SD700-IS camera. It's just the better camera. If there were any available a few months ago, I'd own one now, but they were sold out everywhere with the Christmas rush. I ended up choosing the SD900, which I am extremely happy about, but I would have been very happy with the SD700 (for less money) also.

Here's a comparison page, in case you have not seen this yet. I added the SD1000 which looks like a replacement for the SD600, because you might not be able to find the SD600 any more.

Click on "Read owner opinions" and then read them. For the SD700, Click on "In-depth review." Be sure to note that the review is many pages long so you don't stop after page one. Check the sample images, also. You can enlarge these to full size images if you click on the file name shown below the picture. You will have to then put your cursor in the white space to the right of the picture and click once. After that, you can pass your cursor over the image and it will turn into a magnifier. Click it as a magnifier once and the image will go to full size and you can really examine the detail or look for artifacts like fringing or noise.

Buy the SD700-IS. B&H Photo (available through Yahoo! Shopping) has it for under $300.

Of course, you'll need a decent memory card and I recommend a genuine Sandisk Ultra II (60X) or Extreme III (133X) of at least 1GB - preferably 2 GB - for your camera. Lexar is another excellent card supplier and they have the "Professional" 133X as well as the Platinum 80X to choose from. Both Lexar and Sandisk come with image recovery software that you copy onto your computer before you format the card and both have limited lifetime warranties.

Since I wrote this answer, I have received and tested an SD700-IS (My daughter's birthday present.) and I stand by my recommendation. It's a great little camera and actually a little hard to distinguish the images from my SD900, when a comparable subject and compostion is used. Report It
