Digital Camera methods?

Hello,
I own a Canon SD450 Digital Camera. Overall its a very good camera but what i was wondering is if there is a mode or way to take pictures of close up documents or business cards for example and have it clear. When i turn off the flash, the picture is extremely blurred but if I turn on the flash.. there is too much glare and lighting. Is there a way or mode/function on the camera to allow me to take pictures of documents close up?

Thank You.

you have a special macro programm AND the option to change the ISO Sensitivity... if you put it at 400 it is more sensitve to light, so pics taken in low light are getting better. the higer the numer, the less light is possible.

im happy that i could help you! have fun! Report It

On most digital cameras you have a close up or "macro setting" so fist check to see if you have that. Some times the icon for it is a flower. If you do, use it, then take the card or what ever you want to take a photo of into a bright light source, like the sun! This way you can turn off the flash but still have a fast shutter speed that will help to keep things clearer. Also you can use a small tripod, then use the shutter timer to trip the shutter, this icon is usually a clock. Even with all of this, you will not likely get a photo clear enough to then make additional business cards. If not consider using a scanner.

Even in the Macro mode I don't think you could get close enough to get good clear pictures of business cards. I've had good success putting a piece of tissue over the flash to cut down on the amount of light it puts out. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 layers of tissue to work, but since it is digital it doesn't cost anything to experiment.

Since the SD450 doesn't have any way to attach close-up lenses to the front of the lens it would be hard to use those, but you could try hand holding a close-up filter lens in front of the lens to see if it works.

Use Macro mode.

For the lighting you need two external flash units, one on either side of the camera at a 45 degree angle to the document.

If it's absolutely necessary to eliminate all glare, you need to buy 3 polarizing filters, one for your camera lens and two gel ones, one for each of the flash units. Experiment with the position of the filter on the lens (turning the filter) till you get no glare.
