Are Sony digital cameras better than Canon? Or the other way round?

I'm debating whether I should buy a digital camera from Canon's IXUS range or to buy one from Sony's T-series. Can you guys tell me which one you think it's better and why?

Many Thanks in advance!!

I would say it depends on the model between model itself but if you want me to generalize... the IXUS is not a bad camera but I would say that it's at least on par with the Sony in term of picture quality.

However, many people have complained about Sony's build quality - they say it was not sturdy enough for a camera.

The use of memory stick instead of a more universal media can also be a minus.

Also, keep in mind that Canon have decades of experience of making camera. Well not sure if it's mean anything nowadays but I'm just saying.

Finally I'm going to repeat there's no way of telling which one is better unless you provide us the model of the Canon and the Sony. Personally I would probably picked a Canon because I have a Canon and have operated a few more before so it is most likely that I would be pretty familiar with the interface.

Hope this helps.

sony cybershot as i owned 1 of it...it's good..just that sony brand uses a more expensive memory card

I just got a digital camera in the few days from a friend that got a new one... So I'm new with the digital world here!!! So I have no idea what one is better!!!! <ab>

I agree with dodol. Plus, as a general rule. most Canon's have an optical viewfinder and most Sony's do not. There are situations where you simply NEED to have an optical viewfinder if you are going to do anything besides simply guess what you are shooting.

Get a Canon DSLR.

The EOS400d is a good camera and worth the money, plus its more flexible then a point and shoot

As a photographer i often get asked which camera is best. Now when it comes to digital compacts you have to remeber they all do a similer job these days so it is very hard to choose. The first thing i would recomend is choose the model in your price range you feel comftable using. Make sure you can navigate the menu well and insure the caseing is a solid build that will take everyday abuse. As for choosing between Canon and Sony I would myself always go with Canon as they are a true Photographic company and sony are a electronics company. Its just what Canon do. Dont Foget There are lots of other great Brands out there Nikon Fuij olympus and more so go to a shop and see which you prefer. For my compact I use a Ricoh r5 and i tell you what nothing in its price range comes close. Then For work i am a nikon man all the way. So to cut a long answer short go for what you feel best with shop around and get a feel for them.

In all honesty, Canon and Sony are equally good. They are definitely the leading digital camera brands. It really depends, can you give us a specific model number?

Sony is always THE BEST
