I've heard the docking cradle for the Casio can be a pain, but the small size is what draws me to it. I've been told to go with the Canon, just because they tend to be better cameras. I've never owned or operated the Canon that you speak of but I can speak about the Casio. The picture quality of the Casio is pretty decent. I'm not gonna say that it is the best, but to the average person, it's very good especially considering the other benefits of the camera, like the size, the quick shutter response (1 millisecond), the quick startup time, the practically indestructible casing, etc.
As to the cradle. For home use, the cradle is very nice in that I can just set the camera on the cradle to recharge. None of this whole business of plugging in a chord or anything. Also, unlike some other cameras, it won't try to sync with the computer unless you press the sync button on the cradle.
But for travel, I found the cradle annoying. Luckily, eBay has a nice solution for this. You can buy a travel charger for less than $15 shipped (sometimes it even comes with an extra battery). Some of the travel chargers are just this small thing that plugs directly into the wall and then you insert the camera battery into it to recharge it. Then when you want to pack up the recharger, the prongs that plug into the wall simple fold inward so that it's just a small box that you can throw anywhere in your luggage. I have charger also for that reason.
So I had to spend and extra $15, but now I get the best of both worlds. A cradle for super easy use (just set it down to charge and sync) and a travel charger so that I don't have to carry around a cradle and the AC adapter.
I personally would go with the Casio, but I'm biased since I own TWO of them, they are that nice. But then again, I also own a Canon Digital SLR. Consumer Search reviws digital cameras and recommends the best ones.
